Here is a list of recommended resources for the Book of Ruth - our sermon series for June/July 2019:
The Bible Project (Ruth Overview) - Only have seven minutes to expand your understanding of Ruth? This is a great video to show to kids to help them understand the book, but it’s just as helpful if not more so for adults!
Teaching Ruth & Esther by Christopher Ash - this is an introductory-level commentary on these two book of the Bible. The Ruth section is about 125 pages long. It includes verse-by-verse commentary as well as cautions against “wrong turns” from the passage. This would be an excellent devotional companion to our series. Ash also did a “Help Me Teach the Bible” podcast episode with Nancy Guthrie on the Book of Ruth.
I haven’t read it, but the Reformed Expository Commentary by Iain Duguid is known as an excellent work as well. This takes the form of a sermon-based commentary. Duguid will surely cover things that I don’t, and does so from an expert’s perspective!
You can’t do much better than Greg Thompson’s series on Ruth. Thompson served as Senior Pastor of Trinity PCA in Charlottesville, VA. This series is so good that one MPC member was wondering if I would just play the recording and lip-synch to Thompson’s words :)
One of our MPC members recommended “An Immigrant’s Courage” by Tim Keller. This is a sermon from Keller’s series on “Pointers to Christ.”
